Hydrovolts hydrokinetic Class 1 turbine with Flipwing blades underwent testing in the irrigation canal of the Roza Irrigation District in Sunnyside, Washington, USA during the spring and summer of 2011. The hydrokinetic turbine successfully generated as much as 20 watts in a flow of 1.2 m/sec, producing a total of 8 kW-hrs of renewable energy in this canal. This demonstration is of installation and mechanical operation; no generator is installed. The rotor is 8-blade Flipwing design, the cage is 5x5x10 ft in size and 800 lbs. Installation was accomplished in one hour. The turbine operated for 20 hours and was removed the next day. Removal took less than one hour, instant hydropower!
