The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the electric power train of the turbines, including the design of the generator, power conditioning, transmission, and interconnection. This is very similar to wind turbine generator operation. Waterproofing skills will be provided by others. get products built fast. You will be a team leader for generator solutions and you will meet prototype and product development timelines. Hands-on experience installing electric power generation equipment is essential. You will manage vendors and work with the full engineering team. You will possess self confidence, initiative, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to create an energetic, productive organization. Candidates with a current Professional Engineering (PE) license in Washington are strongly preferred.
As Electrical Engineer, responsibilities will include:
- Research on alternative generators suitable for the unique hydrokinetic power regime
- Working with vendors on design and procurement of components
- Design, engineering and testing of various components and sub-systems
- Overseeing assembly and testing of systems and sub-systems
- Documenting design and engineering activities
- Reporting status and presenting plans to senior management
Minimum Qualifications
- Based in greater Seattle area with excellent local knowledge of electric equiipment suppliers and fabricators
- Expertise in generators and power electronics
- Personally designed and installed electric power systems in 1-20 kW range or greater
- BS in electrical engineering; MS or Ph.D. degree preferred
- 10+ years experience, including several years experience in manufacturing organizations
- CAD experience
- Experience managing suppliers and supply-chain issues
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Self-starter willing to roll up his/her sleeves
Experience in the following areas is highly desirable:
- Marine engineering
- Mechanical design
- Finite element analysis (FEA)
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Engineering document control: part numbering system, drawings library, revision control
- New Product Introduction (NPI) process
- Understanding of DFx (manufacturability, assembly, test, serviceability)
- Mentoring and developing personnel
